Discovering What It Means To Be Selfless – Day 2

Day 2 of Discovering What It Means To Be Selfless is about loving others just as I love myself and showing that by being sympathetic and like-minded in Christ.

mark-12v31

This is quite a big issue! It’s the second greatest commandment IN THE WHOLE BIBLE! I’m guessing Jesus was pretty serious about loving others if He said it that way…this verse is so simply, that there’s really no need to break it down. But ask yourself these questions:
1. Do I actually love and treat others like I want to be loved and treated?
2. Do I truly understand the weight of this commandment?

Now that you know that we are to love and treat others with respect since we wanted to be treated with respect, we will be held even more accountable if we take this golden nugget and dump it when we don’t feel like it. As God’s children, we carry a huge responsibility.

1-peter-3v8

This verse basically talks about being one in Christ. We are called to unite in Christ when we are saved by His Blood. When we show sympathy, love, compassion, humility and like-mindedness, we are portraying the very image that Jesus intended for us to portray of Him. Ask yourself:
1. Is my hard heart replaced with a heart of flesh so that I can by sympathetic and loving?
2. Am I humble? If I am, selflessness will come naturally.

I know that none of us are humble by nature. Guys try to prove themselves strong and brave while girls try to prove they are independent and capable of just as much. We seem to fail to realize that we are CALLED to be humble. As children of the Most High we need to act like it. Not acting as in the sense of hypocrisy, but acting as in revealing on the outside that which has changed on the inside.

Take it as a challenge-a spiritual challenge-one that will leave you stronger, if you conquered, and spiritually closer to God.
